Adams calls for end to silence after Belfast murder

Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has called on anyone with information about the murder of a Belfast man two weeks ago to come forward.

The family of 33-year-old Robert McCartney, who was stabbed to death during a row at a pub, have claimed the republican movement is protecting his killers.

The family and the PSNI have claimed that a senior IRA man was involved in the murder, but there is no suggestion that the killing was an official IRA operation.

However, republicans have been accused of imposing a veil of silence around the matter and of intimidating witnesses into remaining silent.
